Job Offer : Residential Support Worker


Under the supervision of the Shelter Coordinator, the Residential Support Worker (RSW) plays a crucial role in assisting and supporting individuals who are homeless or in crisis. Their duty is to create a safe and welcoming environment for shelter residents while ensuring their long-term well-being through a housing-focused approach.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in social services or related fields is preferred.
  • Good understanding of harm reduction and trauma-informed care.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on active listening.
  • Compassionate demeanor and genuine desire to engage with others without judgment.
  • Ability to handle crises calmly and professionally while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work night shifts, including weekends.
  • Bilingual – English and French is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Resident Support and Services

  • Welcome and check in residents upon arrival.
  • Assist with the onboarding process for new residents, including orientation to shelter policies and procedures.
  • Help familiarize new residents with the shelter’s rules, routines, and available services.
  • Prepare and provide meals, snacks, hygiene products, and clothing as needed.
  • Support and build relationships with shelter residents, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to residents, helping them overcome housing-related challenges.

Facility and Safety Management

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the shelter premises.
  • Assist with daily reports and inspections.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Help document incidents, resident progress, and other relevant information.
  • Assist in maintaining daily shift logs, incident reports, and case notes as required.

Team Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Communicate important updates to other staff members during shift changes.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge related to shelter operations.

Compensation:

$22/hour

Work Location and Schedule:

The shelter is located in Bathurst, NB. This full-time position involves variable shifts (day, night, and weekends) to ensure 24/7 service coverage.
