The Next Generation Takes Center Stage at Journée Carrière en Métiers
Bathurst, November 6, 2025 — The first edition of Journée carrière en métiers, organized by Imagine Chaleur in partnership with the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) and several key players in the sector, including Working NB, Skills Canada NB, and Skilled Trades NB, was a great success. The event, held yesterday, brought together students, employers, teachers, and community members around a common goal: to promote skilled trades and strengthen the links between training and regional economic development.
In her welcome address, Shirley de Silva, Director of Economic and Tourism Development at the Chaleur Regional Service Commission (CRSC), emphasized the importance of the trades in our communities and the role they play in a region's economic development. "We encourage all participants to take full advantage of this opportunity to engage with stakeholders, talk with the professionals in attendance, and explore the diversity of career paths in the skilled trades, whether in construction, mechanics, electrical work, or other fields. Each profession contributes its expertise to the growth of our society."
The interim dean of the CCNB École des métiers (School of Trades), Rachel Mitton, highlighted the essential role of education in promoting the trades and developing local skills. She also emphasized the importance of partnerships between educational institutions and employers in the region to meet the needs of the labor market.
"Trades are the beating heart of our economy and offer exciting, stable, and rewarding career opportunities," she said.
The day was filled with conferences, panel discussions, and booth visits, offering participants a great overview of the career opportunities and training programs available in the Chaleur region.
